The Class teacher is Miss Shaw
I hope you are looking forward to this term – I certainly am! In Jemison class, we are always fostering our values ‘REACH UP’ as we embark on our next adventure together. This term promises to be filled with exciting learning opportunities, and I cannot wait to share them with you.
In English, we will be reading a diverse range of texts, which will help to cultivate our love for storytelling and literature. We will delve into our amazing world through the thought-provoking book Dear Earth, where we will create an informative leaflet celebrating our environment. Additionally, we will embark on our own imaginative journeys as we craft stories inspired by The First Drawing and Leon and the Place Between. Our guided reading sessions will focus on developing essential skills through engaging stories and captivating poetry. By the end of this term, you will not only strengthen your reading abilities but also your overall comprehension.
In Maths, Year 2 and Year 3 will continue to build upon our previous knowledge as we dive deeper into our place value and addition and subtraction units. This is an excellent opportunity to solidify your understanding of number sense while working on both practical tasks and challenging problem-solving activities.
Through our foundation subjects, we will explore the vital question, “Why are rainforests important to us?” during our Geography lessons. This topic seamlessly connects to our art focus, where we will study the works and techniques of growing artists. As we draw from nature, we will learn to appreciate the differences in our choice of drawing mediums, scales, and the ways tonal shading can enhance our artwork. Our history lessons will offer fascinating insights as we compare the Stone Age, Iron Age, and Bronze Age. You will have the chance to research the various eras and share which period you would prefer to live in, fostering discussions and critical thinking.
In Design and Technology, this term, we will take on the challenge of cooking a healthy, seasonal, and nutritious meal. This practical experience will encourage you to make informed choices about the food we consume and help develop your culinary skills.
In Physical Education, we will learn new skills in hockey and gymnastics, as well as how to apply problem-solving techniques and tactics in game situations. Our PE days will be Mondays and Friday; remember to come prepared in your PE kit!
During Religious Education, we will investigate essential topics and questions about Christianity, focusing on “How have some people served God?” We will also further explore the life of Jesus through the inquiry, “What does it mean to be a disciple?” These discussions will help you reflect on values and beliefs while promoting a sense of respect for different perspectives.
Finally, in PSHE and RSE, we will learn about families, relationships, and healthy wellbeing. These lessons are designed to support you in developing a strong understanding of yourself and others, enabling you to navigate social interactions confidently.
As you can see, this term is packed with exciting and enriching activities that will foster both your academic progress and personal growth. I look forward to embarking on this learning adventure with you!
